Career Growth: Variety Care celebrates the first graduate of its MA certification program

Carolina Carreon began her journey with Variety Care as a part-time door greeter and quickly expanded her role to a full-time patient services representative. But, she did not stop there.  

Carreon wanted to grow her career path and knew Variety Care was the answer. Right there next to her to make her dreams come true, Variety Care offered her entry into their Medical Assistant Certification program. Not thinking twice, Carreon jumped on the opportunity.  

“I always wanted to have a certificate in the medical field, so this was a great opportunity to start,” Carreon said. 
 
Variety Care is excited to offer two programs that help employees obtain national Medical Assistant (MA) certification through the National Health career Association. Every employee is eligible for this opportunity, regardless of whether they're currently working as an MA or looking to pursue it as a new career path. 

The Medical Assistant (MA) Training and Certification is a flexible six-month online course designed for all employees, regardless of their career level or job description. It enables employees to complete it at their own pace after hours. The initiative gives employees the opportunity to obtain their MA certification with the National Healthcare Association, free of cost.   

The development of this initiative by Program Coordinator Angela Castro-Jenkins and Program Director Shauna O’Brien aims to provide employees a clear pathway to success. Variety Care’s goal is to enhance professionalism, boost patient satisfaction and advance patient care. A great patient experience starts with well-trained staff who feel confident in their roles. 

“The MA program is an embedded program that increases retention and decreases our vacancies. After successful completion of the program students should be able to float from front to back office in areas of medical assisting which makes it such a valuable piece which most of our students start in the front. The goals of the program are to increase retention, increase quality of our existing MAs, career ladder for our organization, help educate our leaders, and generate excitement within our company which is great!” Shauna O’Brien, Program Director  

The MA Training Program is inclusive and welcomes employees of all career levels and job descriptions.
